Lora Reynolds Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of graphite drawings by Irish artist Tom Molloy in our Project Room, opening concurrently with ‘Susan Collis; So it goes'.

The exhibition includes a selection of eight new graphite drawings. Each takes paintings by Johannes Vermeer as their starting point. Tom Molloy has faithfully drawn the source painting yet excluded their lone female subject creating a mysterious, ambiguous tension, both in terms of the composition and in the implied narrative. Molloy's removal of the female figure reinvents and alters the space and implies a time before or after the moment captured in Vermeer's painting. The viewer is left questioning whether the woman is yet to arrive or has just left, all while contemplating this space Vermeer would have seen and inhabited when his models were not present.

Tom Molloy was born in Waterford, Ireland in 1964 and is currently living and working in France. His work has been exhibited internationally and is in the permanent collection of the Irish Museum of Art, Dublin, Goldman Sachs, London, the National Self Portrait Collection, Limerick, Ireland, and the Blanton Museum of Art, Austin. He had a solo exhibition at the Aldrich Museum, Connecticut in 2010.
